“She Threatened the System” – Anita Among’s Ally Claims Presidential Ambitions Triggered Fallout with General Muhoozi

A political storm is intensifying in Uganda following fresh claims by political analyst Leon Oketch Okumu, who has linked the ongoing investigations into Speaker Anita Annet Among to an alleged fallout with Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In a statement, Okumu—who describes himself as a close personal friend of Among—dismissed the corruption allegations and public scrutiny surrounding her, including claims about her acquisition of a Rolls-Royce. He insisted the developments are politically driven.

“Over the last week, a big lie was crafted about her using corruption and her buying a Rolls-Royce for being extravagant… I have decided to debunk the lies and speak the real truth why she has been harassed, humiliated,” Okumu said.

According to the analyst, the tensions stem from alleged presidential ambitions within Uganda’s political elite ahead of the 2026 transition.

He claimed that both Among and Muhoozi were positioning themselves strategically, particularly within the ruling National Resistance Movement structures.

Okumu alleged that a proposal had been considered within the party to allow Parliament to elect the next president, a move he claims would have given Muhoozi an advantage without going through a nationwide campaign.

“Using the new NRM majority in the 2026 House, plans had been proposed to have Parliament elect the next president so that they naturally endorse Muhoozi without him campaigning,” he claimed.

However, Okumu says Among believed she had the political capital to challenge that plan. He alleged that she intended to rely on her influence across party lines—including opposition MPs, independents, and NRM legislators—to secure victory in such a scenario.

“AAA was planning to use her mobilization skills, influence in Parliament, support of Opposition, NRM and Independents to beat and win Muhoozi in a parliamentary election,” he said.

The analyst further claimed that Among’s alleged remarks expressing confidence in defeating Muhoozi were leaked, triggering tensions at the highest levels of power, including President Yoweri Museveni.

“When this plot leaked… they saw it as betrayal. They both knew that Muhoozi can't win AAA in an election conducted in a Parliament full of her loyal supporters,” Okumu alleged.

He went on to claim that what followed was a calculated effort to politically weaken Among by amplifying allegations against her and shaping public opinion.

“They used her recent purchase of the Rolls-Royce as a lavish lifestyle… The issue is not about the Rolls-Royce or corruption, but POWER,” he stated.

The claims come at a time when Uganda’s Inspectorate of Government (IGG) is reportedly examining allegations linked to Among’s conduct in office. Authorities have maintained that any investigations are based on legal processes.
