The wife of Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi, Febress Ssenyonyi, has publicly congratulated him following his reappointment as the Leader of the Opposition in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) confirmed the decision as part of its leadership lineup in the new Parliament, reinforcing Ssenyonyi’s continued role as one of the key opposition figures in the House.
In her message, Febress Ssenyonyi described the reappointment as a reflection of public trust in her husband’s leadership and political direction.
She noted that the decision signified continued confidence not only from his party but also from citizens who she said still believe in his advocacy for accountability and governance reform.
“Congratulations my dear husband, Joel Ssenyonyi upon your reappointment as Leader of the Opposition in the 12th Parliament. This is a true testament to the confidence, trust, and hope that so many Ugandans continue to place in your leadership,” she said.
Ssenyonyi, who previously served in the same position during the 11th Parliament, has been retained by NUP alongside other opposition appointments in Parliament.
The party also announced several leadership positions across key parliamentary committees, signaling continuity in its strategy as it seeks to strengthen its oversight role in the new House.
Febress further praised her husband’s leadership style, highlighting what she described as his courage and humility in public service.
She said his political work had resonated with many Ugandans, particularly those who feel underrepresented in national decision-making processes.
“Your courage, humility, and unwavering commitment to speaking for ordinary citizens have inspired many across our nation,” she said.
“As you take on this important responsibility once again, may God continue to grant you wisdom, strength, and grace to continue standing for truth, justice, accountability, and the Uganda we all believe in.”
She concluded her message by expressing personal pride in her husband’s political journey, wishing him strength as he takes on the renewed parliamentary leadership role.
“Proud of you always,” she added.
Ssenyonyi’s reappointment places him at the centre of opposition engagement in the 12th Parliament, where he is expected to coordinate scrutiny of government policy, represent minority party positions, and lead debate on key national issues.
