Security agencies in Uganda have detained two close staff members attached to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, as investigations intensify into alleged illicit wealth accumulation and suspected financial irregularities.
The two individuals were picked up during coordinated security operations linked to ongoing probes targeting properties and financial interests associated with the former Speaker.
Authorities are yet to release their identities, citing the sensitivity of the investigation.
However, security sources indicate that one of those detained is a senior officer from Among’s close protection team, previously attached to the Directorate of Counter Terrorism within the police service.
The second is a civilian staff member who reportedly worked closely within her office operations and personal administrative structure.
The duo is currently being held and interrogated at the Defence Intelligence and Security headquarters in Mbuya.
Investigators are said to be focusing on tracing financial transactions, communication records, and movements that could shed light on ownership of assets now under scrutiny.
According to sources familiar with the operation, the interrogations are part of a wider intelligence-led inquiry aimed at mapping alleged links between public office influence and privately held wealth.
Authorities are also reviewing documentation tied to asset declarations and property ownership.
The detentions come in the wake of simultaneous searches conducted at properties linked to Among in high-end areas including Nakasero, Kololo, and Kigo.
The coordinated operations have heightened political attention, given Among’s previous role as Speaker of Parliament, one of the country’s most powerful constitutional offices.
While security agencies have not issued an official public briefing on the matter, insiders say the investigations are still active and may expand depending on evidence gathered during ongoing interrogations and forensic reviews of seized materials.
