The United States has congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following his inauguration as Uganda’s Head of State, signalling continued diplomatic engagement between Washington and Kampala, with a focus on trade, security, and health cooperation.
The message was delivered by the United States Department of State Bureau of African Affairs, with Senior Bureau Official Nick Checker representing the United States at the inauguration ceremony.
“The United States congratulates Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his inauguration as President of Uganda,” the statement read, noting that Nick Checker attended the event on behalf of Washington.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Uganda to advance shared goals, including shifting from aid to trade and investment, supporting regional peace and security, and preventing dangerous disease outbreaks through sustainable health systems.”
The statement reflects Washington’s continued engagement with Uganda, particularly in strengthening economic ties and regional cooperation.
It also highlights a shift in emphasis towards trade and investment as a central pillar of bilateral relations.
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was sworn in for another term during a ceremony attended by regional and international representatives.
The event marked the beginning of another term in office for the long-serving Ugandan leader, who has maintained a central role in East African politics for decades.
The United States reiterated its interest in working closely with Uganda on regional peace and security matters, particularly in addressing instability in parts of the wider Great Lakes region and Horn of Africa.
Health cooperation also featured prominently in the message, with Washington stressing the need to strengthen sustainable health systems capable of preventing and responding to disease outbreaks.
The focus comes after recent health emergencies in the region that exposed gaps in preparedness and response.
Uganda remains a key partner for the United States in East Africa, with cooperation spanning governance, security, public health, and economic development.
