The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has stated that former minister Miria Matembe has been arrested, days after she was reported missing following a security operation at her Kampala residence.
In posts published on his X account, Muhoozi claimed that Matembe was detained on allegations of “impersonation.”
He wrote, “Matembe has been arrested for impersonation. Mzee only has one sister. Auntie Kajubiri.”
The statement appeared to reference President Yoweri Museveni, though no official explanation has been issued by government institutions.
Responding to further inquiries online, Muhoozi added, “That one. I have her too,” indicating that she is in custody. In another post, he stated, “Matembe's time is OVER! Let her open her mouth anywhere again.”
Matembe’s reported arrest follows earlier accounts from her family indicating that she went missing after leaving home for a morning jog.
This came shortly after security operatives conducted a search at her residence in Luzira, Kampala.
According to relatives, the officers did not find her at home at the time of the operation.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the Uganda Police Force or the Ministry of Defence regarding the arrest, charges, or current location of Matembe.
Authorities have also not issued a formal statement addressing Muhoozi’s claims.
Matembe is a former Minister of Ethics and Integrity and has remained active in public affairs as a political commentator and activist.
The situation remains unclear, with attention now focused on whether state institutions will provide formal communication regarding her status and any legal proceedings.
