President Yoweri Museveni has appointed John Chrysostom Muyingo as Acting Minister of Education and Sports, temporarily handing him responsibility for one of Uganda’s most important ministries as First Lady Janet Museveni continues recovering from a serious illness.
The appointment, announced by the Presidency on Thursday, takes immediate effect and places Muyingo in charge of overseeing education and sports affairs during the absence of the substantive minister. Janet Museveni, who was reappointed to the position during the recent Cabinet reshuffle, has been away from public duties for several months due to health challenges.
According to the official communication, the appointment was made under the powers granted to the President by Article 99(1) of the Constitution.
