Former Aruu County MP Odonga Otto has come under criticism after describing the appointment of Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng as Government Chief Whip as a political demotion, with analysts and political commentators arguing that the influential parliamentary position carries far greater strategic weight than he suggested.
Otto recently praised Aceng's record as Minister of Health, where she served for nearly a decade and led Uganda's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he argued that moving her from the Health Ministry amounted to reducing her political influence.
Critics of Otto's remarks disagree, insisting that the Government Chief Whip is one of the most powerful political offices within the government and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
"Calling Aceng's appointment a demotion is misleading. The Government Chief Whip is one of the most strategic political offices in Uganda today," political commentators argue. GET FULL STORY HERE.
