Democratic Party (DP) Vice President Fred Mukasa Mbidde has formally declared his intention to succeed Norbert Mao as party president, saying the time has come for a new generation of leaders to take charge and rebuild the country's oldest political party.

Speaking in an interview, Mbidde said he is prepared to contest for the DP presidency in 2031 or even earlier if a delegates' conference is convened before the end of the current leadership term.

"The constitution provides for a delegates conference at any time if there is need. It is possible that by 2031 there will be a new president, but it is also possible that it happens before then," Mbidde said. GET FULL STORY HERE.
