Former Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura has launched a scathing attack on senior government officials, accusing them of enabling human rights violations and remaining silent following the shutdown of Nation Media Group (NMG) outlets in Uganda.

In a statement, Nyanjura argued that in a “functioning state,” key figures including the Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Inspector General of Police, Chief Justice, and heads of regulatory bodies would have resigned in protest over the conduct of Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

She described the general’s actions as insubordination that has gone unchecked by institutions mandated to uphold the rule of law.

Her remarks come amid growing concern over the closure of NMG outlets, a move that has drawn criticism from media stakeholders and civil society groups.

The shutdown has raised fresh questions about press freedom, state authority, and the independence of regulatory agencies in Uganda.

Nyanjura accused top officials of prioritizing personal gain over constitutional duty, alleging that their silence reflects complicity rather than neutrality.

According to her, failure to act against what she termed “lawlessness” undermines public trust and weakens democratic institutions.

She further warned that the consequences of inaction could be far-reaching, arguing that systems built on fear and compliance often turn against their own enforcers.

In her view, officials who fail to speak out risk being remembered as passive enablers during a critical moment in the country’s governance.

The statement also framed the current situation as part of a broader pattern, suggesting that institutional leaders have repeatedly failed to challenge executive overreach.

Nyanjura maintained that accountability must extend beyond political leaders to include technocrats and office bearers entrusted with safeguarding constitutional order.
