Former Ethics and Integrity Minister Miria Matembe has spoken out following a security raid on her Luzira residence, raising concerns that the operation may have been intended to target her personally.

In a statement issued after the incident, Matembe said security operatives stormed her home at around 10:00am while she was away, forcing entry and conducting a search in her absence.

“They arrived at my home at around 10:00 AM in my absence. The caretakers informed me that the operatives forced their way inside, ransacked the house, and left with several items,” she said.

Matembe added that she is still trying to understand the motive behind the operation, suggesting that it may have gone beyond a routine search.

“I am still trying to establish what they were targeting, or if their intention was to abduct me,” she stated.

According to information from the scene, the operatives reportedly spent hours searching the house before leaving with electronic gadgets and other unspecified items. Authorities had not provided an official explanation for the raid by the time of publication.

The development comes amid heightened political tension, with Matembe recently emerging as a vocal critic of the government. She has publicly condemned alleged human rights violations, including reported abductions and enforced disappearances.

Her recent remarks criticizing Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba have also drawn attention, with some observers linking the timing of the raid to her outspoken stance.

Matembe, a long-serving politician, previously held the Ethics and Integrity docket under President Yoweri Museveni and served multiple terms as a Member of Parliament. She later distanced herself from the ruling establishment and has since become a prominent critic on governance, accountability, and civil liberties.

The incident adds to growing concerns raised by civil society groups over the conduct of security agencies, particularly in relation to perceived dissenting voices.
