Uganda’s First Lady and Minister of Education, Janet Museveni, has publicly addressed her recent health scare for the first time, confirming her recovery and putting an end to months of speculation about her condition and absence from public engagements.
In a heartfelt social media message shared with the public, Janet Museveni revealed that she had gone through a serious illness but has since regained strength.
Her statement comes days after President Yoweri Museveni disclosed that she survived a life-threatening episode earlier this year.
“It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth, He lives,” she wrote, opening her message with a strong expression of faith.
The First Lady used the opportunity to thank Ugandans for their prayers and support during her illness, acknowledging the widespread concern that had grown over her health in recent months.
Her absence from key public functions had triggered speculation, which neither she nor State House had addressed in detail until now.
“I must therefore thank Uganda, beginning with Mzee, who has prayed with the whole nation,” she said, referring to President Museveni. “Thank you all for coming out publicly to pray for me.”
Her message suggests that the recovery process involved both medical care and spiritual support, reflecting a blend of personal belief and public solidarity.
While she did not disclose the exact nature of the illness, her remarks confirm that the situation had been serious enough to attract nationwide concern.
Janet Museveni also expressed gratitude for the messages she received during her birthday, noting that the outpouring of support had been overwhelming.
“Thank you for all those continuous prayers and also for the kind birthday wishes. Thank you for letting me know just how much I am loved,” she added.
The First Lady’s statement now provides clarity on a matter that had remained largely private despite growing public interest.
As a senior government official and a central figure in Uganda’s leadership, her health carries both personal and national significance.
Her recovery marks a return to normalcy after what appears to have been a critical period, with the government now expected to resume full operations involving her office.
