Journalist Warns of “Deeper Pattern” Behind Lukwago Arrest, Says More Arrests May Follow

Journalist Samson Kasumba has drawn attention to what he describes as a wider security pattern following the dramatic arrest of lawyer Erias Lukwago, suggesting that the incident may be part of a larger sequence of forthcoming arrests.

Kasumba, reacting to the Monday morning operation in which armed security operatives stormed Lukwago’s Wakaliga residence and took him into custody, argued that the development should not be viewed in isolation.

Lukwago was reportedly removed from his home by heavily armed personnel in a forceful operation that has since triggered political debate and concern among legal and human rights circles.

In his remarks, Kasumba urged the public to look beyond the immediate spectacle of Lukwago’s arrest and consider what he termed as “patterns and gaps” emerging within recent security-related incidents.

He suggested that the timing and manner of the arrest could indicate a broader operational strategy unfolding behind the scenes.

“I am more inclined to point your minds in the direction of the arrests that are coming,” Kasumba stated.

“Big as it is, the arrest of Lukwago is a smoke screen for what is about to happen. There is something cooking and you can open your eyes and see it if you went to a good school. Study the patterns, the links between the events of the day, and the gaps that are also a key component of the patterns.”

He further cautioned observers against treating the incident as an isolated legal matter, insisting that a sequence of coordinated actions may already be underway.

“Good afternoon critical thinkers,” he added, in a message that has since circulated widely on social media platforms.

Kasumba’s comments come at a time of heightened political tension in Uganda, where security operations involving opposition figures and their legal representatives have increasingly drawn scrutiny.

Lukwago, a prominent opposition lawyer and former Kampala Lord Mayor, has been at the centre of several high-profile legal battles involving detained opposition leaders.

His arrest on Monday was carried out under unclear circumstances, with authorities yet to issue an official explanation regarding the charges or his whereabouts.

The operation, involving heavily armed personnel, has intensified public debate over due process and the treatment of legal professionals engaged in politically sensitive cases.
