Former Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura has provided new details from Kira Divisional Police Headquarters, where former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is currently being held following his controversial detention.
In a brief update shared from outside the police facility, Nyanjura said a legal team led by Counsel Medard Lubega Segona had been granted access to Lukwago, while other supporters and colleagues were denied entry.
“We are at Kira Division Police Headquarters where Salongo Erias Lukwago is currently being held, counsel Segona has been allowed to access him. The rest of us have been blocked,” she said.
Her remarks point to heightened restrictions around the detention facility, where family members, friends, and political allies have been gathered since news emerged that Lukwago had been transferred to the station by security forces.
Lukwago has now spent more than 48 hours in custody, following what his associates describe as a forceful arrest from his home in Wakaliga, Kampala, during an operation reportedly involving Special Forces Command personnel.
The incident has triggered widespread concern among political leaders, civil society actors, and legal practitioners, who have questioned both the manner of his arrest and the delay in presenting him before court.
While police have not issued a detailed public explanation of the circumstances surrounding his detention, the situation at Kira Division continues to draw attention as legal representatives seek clarity on his status.
Nyanjura’s account highlights growing frustration among Lukwago’s supporters, who have been waiting outside the facility demanding information on his condition and possible charges.
Inside the station, access appears tightly controlled, with only selected lawyers permitted to engage with the detained former mayor.
As pressure mounts, attention is now focused on whether authorities will formally charge Lukwago or release him unconditionally after days of uncertainty that began with his dramatic arrest in Kampala
