A public confrontation on X between Nation Media Group Uganda Chief Executive Officer Susan Nsibirwa and Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has intensified into a defamation dispute, after their exchange shifted from electoral claims to personal allegations.
The row began after Nsibirwa publicly questioned the circumstances surrounding Nameere’s election victory, raising concerns over how she was declared winner and implying possible irregularities in the process. Her post triggered a swift and forceful response from the MP.
Nameere responded with direct counter-accusations, bringing in personal claims about past interactions and legal incidents.
In one of her posts, she alleged prior involvement in Nsibirwa’s legal matters, stating: “Nsibirwa I stood surety for u in 2015… your fellow managers at Vision Group refused to help u out of Police… due to your alcohol and njaga problem!”
The remarks escalated the exchange and shifted it into a reputational dispute, moving beyond electoral politics into personal conduct allegations.
Nsibirwa dismissed the allegations and warned of legal consequences, signalling intent to pursue defamation proceedings.
In her response, she wrote: “Lies lies and more lies….because that's who you are. And this can definitely land you in court for defamation. Let's go!!”
The exchange quickly attracted wider attention online, with former Vision Group Chief Executive Officer Robert Kabushenga weighing in in defence of Nsibirwa.
He stated that during his tenure supervising her, he had no knowledge of any criminal allegations against her, reinforcing her rejection of Nameere’s claims.
The dispute reflects an increasing pattern in East African public life where political leaders and senior media executives engage directly on social media platforms, often bypassing institutional communication channels.
As of now, neither Nsibirwa nor Nameere has withdrawn their statements, and both continue to stand by their positions. Nsibirwa has maintained that she will pursue legal action, while Nameere has not retracted her claims.
