National Unity Platform (NUP) activist and journalist Andrew Natumanya, popularly known as Ninye Tabz, has been released on police bond from Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala, bringing to an end days of uncertainty following his reported abduction on the 17th of the month.

According to a statement from his associates, Tabz was freed on Monday evening after being held at CPS, where he had been processed following his disappearance.

His release comes amid growing public concern over his whereabouts since he was reportedly seized in Kamwokya.

“Tabz released on Police Bond from CPS this evening since his abduction on the 17th of this month,” the statement read.

However, his release has come with strict conditions set by the authorities.

As part of the bond requirements, he has reportedly been instructed to maintain a low profile and refrain from speaking to the media or making any public statements regarding what he experienced during the period he was in captivity.

“He has been ordered to keep a low profile and not speak to the media or make public statements about what he went through during his captivity,” the statement further indicated.

In addition, Natumanya has been directed to report back to CPS on the 29th of this month as investigations into the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention continue.

Details on whether formal charges have been preferred against him remain unclear, and police authorities had not issued an official public statement confirming the conditions of his release at the time of publication.

Natumanya, known for his digital journalism and political commentary linked to opposition-aligned discourse, had been reported missing after an alleged interception by armed men.

His disappearance sparked concern among opposition figures and human rights advocates, who called for clarity on his whereabouts and legal status.

The National Unity Platform has previously raised concerns over what it describes as a pattern of enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests targeting activists and government critics, allegations authorities have repeatedly dismissed or not directly addressed.

His release on bond is expected to ease immediate tensions, though the conditions attached to his freedom and the pending police reporting date leave the case still under active scrutiny.
