“Point of No Return”: Bobi Wine’s Son Warns as Muhoozi Targets Opposition Leadership

Political tensions continue to escalate after remarks by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba signalling a tougher stance against opposition figures, including reported interest in reshaping the office of the Leader of the Opposition.

The developments have drawn sharp reactions, including from Solomon Kampala, son of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi.

In a statement, Kampala warned that the country is approaching a dangerous political tipping point, blaming what he described as deepening governance failures.

“Uganda is slowly reaching the point of no return,” he said, adding that the consequences of poor leadership would eventually affect all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

His remarks come amid growing concern over Muhoozi’s recent statements, which critics say point to an expanding role of the military in civilian political affairs.

The general has previously issued threats against opposition actors and is now linked to calls for changes in opposition leadership structures, including the position currently held by Joel Ssenyonyi.

Kampala framed the unfolding situation as both alarming and inevitable, suggesting that widespread impact could force citizens to become more politically aware.

“Where we will all have a reason to care,” he stated, portraying the current trajectory as a wake-up call for the public.

Political analysts note that such sentiments reflect a broader frustration among opposition supporters, who argue that state institutions are increasingly being used to suppress dissent.

The controversy also raises fresh questions about the independence of Uganda’s democratic institutions, particularly Parliament and the role of opposition leadership within it.

The Leader of the Opposition is a key constitutional office tasked with holding the government accountable, making any perceived interference politically significant.
