Ex-Aruu MP Odonga Otto Says He’s Locked Out Gov't Jobs Despite Top Education: "I Have Five Degrees"

Former Aruu County Member of Parliament Odonga Otto has publicly decried what he describes as political and professional exclusion under President Yoweri Museveni’s administration, despite his extensive academic qualifications and years of public service.

In an X statement, Otto expressed frustration over his inability to secure a meaningful role in national development, revealing that he holds five academic degrees, a diploma, and an honorary doctorate.

His academic background spans social sciences, law, international relations, international sports law, and political philosophy.

“I would rather stay in my village Opolacen with five degrees, one diploma and one honorary doctorate,” Otto stated. “I still have no role to play in building Uganda at 48 years. Really sectarian regime.”

Otto’s remarks add to a growing list of concerns raised by opposition figures and former public officials who accuse the government of sidelining individuals perceived to be politically misaligned with the ruling establishment.

His statement suggests that academic achievement and professional capacity may not necessarily translate into opportunities within Uganda’s current governance structure.

The former legislator, known for his outspoken stance on governance and accountability, served as Aruu County MP for over a decade before losing his seat.

Since then, he has remained active in political discourse, often criticizing what he terms as systemic exclusion and lack of meritocracy.
