Activist Andrew Natumanya has broken his silence following his recent abduction and release on police bond, confronting growing online claims that he could be working with state operatives.

Speaking during a Friday morning interview on NBS Television with journalist Canary Mugume, Natumanya adopted a defiant tone, challenging critics while reframing the accusations.

The controversy comes days after Natumanya was reportedly abducted under unclear circumstances, sparking concern among rights groups and sections of the opposition.

His reappearance and subsequent release have since fueled speculation online, with some questioning the authenticity of the incident.

During the interview, Mugume put the allegations directly to him, noting that some Ugandans believe he could be linked to the same actors behind his abduction.

In response, Natumanya declined to either confirm or deny the claims, instead shifting the focus to broader governance issues.

“So what if I am working for them? So what if I am not,” he said, in remarks that have since drawn mixed reactions across political circles and social media platforms.

Natumanya went further to argue that even if such claims were true, his positions would remain aligned with public interest.

He cited demands for the release of opposition figures including Eddie Mutwe, Waiswa, and veteran opposition leader Kizza Besigye.

“This is a state agent who wants to see them out of jail,” he said, before listing issues he believes affect ordinary Ugandans.

These include calls for improved infrastructure, restoration of the rule of law, and an end to President Yoweri Museveni’s long tenure in power.

He also emphasized the role of the media, stating that journalists should be free to report truthfully without fear or interference.

The remarks have added a new dimension to an already sensitive issue, as questions persist about enforced disappearances and alleged state involvement in targeting government critics.
