Journalist Andrew Natumanya, popularly known as Ninye Tabz, has issued a fresh and explosive account of his time in detention, alleging degrading treatment and threats aimed at silencing his work.
In a new social media statement released shortly after regaining his freedom on police bond, Tabz claimed that he was subjected to humiliation while in custody, in what he described as an attempt to intimidate him over his reporting.
“Before the photos make it to the Internet; During detention, I was stripped naked, photographed and warned that if I ever release classified information from a ‘certain office’ again, the photos will be published!” he wrote.
The journalist further suggested that the alleged actions were intended to deter him from continuing to expose sensitive information, particularly relating to corruption and governance.
However, he maintained a defiant stance, signaling that he would not be silenced despite the threats.
“So brace yourselves because I’m not about to stop!” he added.
Tabz had earlier been reported missing for several days before resurfacing in police custody, where he was later released on bond as investigations into alleged unauthorised disclosure of official information and personal data continue.
His latest claims introduce a new dimension to the case, raising concerns among media observers and rights advocates about the treatment of detainees, particularly journalists and activists engaged in politically sensitive reporting.
