“Tell Him the Truth” — Political Strategist Blasts Minister Balaam Over ‘Prayer’ Approach as Ambassador Adonia Faces Citizenship Hurdle Blocking Swearing-In

A social media message by State Minister for Local Government Balaam Ateenyi has triggered sharp criticism, drawing attention to the unresolved citizenship status of Ambassador Adonia Ayebare and the legal hurdles blocking his swearing-in as Uganda’s Foreign Affairs minister.

Ayebare, a seasoned diplomat, remains unable to take oath following concerns raised by authorities over his alleged dual citizenship.

Ugandan law restricts individuals holding dual nationality from occupying certain high-ranking government positions, including ministerial roles, unless due legal processes—such as renunciation—are completed.

The situation gained renewed public attention after Balaam posted a brief message of support, stating: “My brother Adonia Ayebare. We’re praying for you.”

However, political strategist Egesa Ronald strongly criticised the remarks, arguing that the matter at hand is strictly legal and should not be framed in religious or emotional terms.

“Praying about what exactly?” Egesa questioned in a detailed response.

He went on to challenge the implications of Balaam’s statement, adding:

“Praying that God makes all those involved forget the law? Praying that the United States miraculously grants his citizenship renunciation without following due process?”

Egesa further raised concerns about governance and adherence to the rule of law, warning against what he described as attempts—direct or indirect—to sidestep established procedures.

“Praying that President Museveni bulldozes Parliament and ignores the law?” he added, before suggesting that leaders should instead confront the issue with honesty.

In a pointed remark directed at both Balaam and Ayebare, Egesa said:

“Ndugu, wake up, be honest and tell the good Ambassador the truth that he does not qualify to be Minister.”

He also revealed that he had previously raised similar concerns directly with Ayebare, stating:

“I told him publicly and he blocked me on X, but I am a truthful friend of his than you, who is deceiving him.”
