The Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has publicly dismissed a viral social media post alleging tensions between him and the Kabaka of Buganda, following earlier warnings by State Minister Balaam Ateenyi that the claims were part of a coordinated misinformation campaign.
The controversy had emerged days earlier after a poster circulated online suggesting a political rift involving Muhoozi and the Buganda Kingdom, sparking debate across social media platforms.
Balaam had moved quickly to label the post as fake, warning that it was designed to sow division between the military leader and one of Uganda’s most influential cultural institutions.
In a fresh response posted on X, Muhoozi directly addressed the claims, firmly denying ever making any statements that could be interpreted as disrespectful toward the Kabaka of Buganda, Edward Muteesa II.
“This is a totally fake tweet. I can never say anything against someone I love and respect like His Majesty the Kabaka,” Muhoozi stated.
His remarks appeared aimed at calming public discussion that had intensified online, with users debating the authenticity of the circulating content and its potential political implications.
The general’s response reinforced earlier assurances from government officials that the alleged rift was fabricated.
Balaam had previously warned that Uganda was facing what he described as an increasing wave of digital misinformation targeting prominent political figures.
He argued that such narratives were intended to distort public perception and create unnecessary tension within the country’s political and cultural landscape.
The Buganda Kingdom remains a central cultural authority in Uganda, and any suggestion of discord involving its leadership often attracts significant attention
