A fresh wave of reactions has emerged following intensified online exchanges involving Ugandan media personality Justine Nameere, as US-based activist Justice Hunter publicly defended her in a post that has since gained traction across social media platforms.

The controversy follows a series of heated online exchanges in which Nameere has been engaged in disputes involving different media and political-linked figures, including a reported fallout with Nation Media Group (NMG) executive Susan Nsibirwa.

The exchanges have sparked divided reactions online, with critics accusing her of confrontational rhetoric, while supporters argue she is being unfairly targeted for speaking out.

In a strongly worded statement, Justice Hunter dismissed what he described as coordinated online attacks against Nameere, arguing that public criticism had turned into harassment.

He framed the backlash as politically and socially motivated, suggesting that attention directed at Nameere was misplaced amid broader national frustrations.

“Some of you thought you had a monopoly on insulting Justine Nameere, but I like how she fights back, which is triggering the online crowd,” Hunter stated. “We all have flawed lives just like Nameere, but the more you hate her, the more we will love her.”

Hunter further expanded his remarks into a broader commentary on freedom of expression and political dissatisfaction, linking the online outrage to wider frustrations in Uganda’s political climate.

“Despot Museveni is the luckiest dictator. You have now diverted your anger and election disappointment to Nameere,” he added. “Well, Nameere, they should leave you alone. Freedom of speech does not only protect speech people like; it also protects speech they do not like.”

He concluded by portraying Nameere as a rising public figure gaining momentum despite criticism, saying: “The new stock is rising, it is strong! You cannot stop Nameere’s momentum.”

The remarks have since ignited further debate online, with supporters echoing Hunter’s defence while critics accuse him of politicising personal disputes and escalating already tense exchanges on social media.

Nameere, who has remained active online throughout the controversy, has continued to engage her critics directly, further fuelling discussions across digital platforms.
