Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda has issued a firm response following his replacement as Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), saying the movement’s mission goes beyond leadership positions and personal roles.
His remarks come days after PLU Chairman and Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced internal changes in the organisation, naming Hon. Fadhil Twalla as the new Secretary General.
In the announcement, Muhoozi praised Kabanda’s three-year tenure, describing it as a foundational period that helped establish standards within the role.
Kabanda, who has served as the pioneer Secretary General since the formation of PLU structures, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the leadership of the movement’s founder.
He acknowledged the trust placed in him and extended congratulations to his successor.
However, in his latest update, Kabanda emphasized that PLU is driven by ideology and objectives rather than political positions or personal ambition.
“We are not in PLU for positions. We are here because we believe in its values and objectives,” Kabanda stated. “Our Chairman General Muhoozi Kainerugaba founded it without positions in mind. We will only retire when those values and objectives are fully achieved.”
The MP’s statement underscores a narrative of continuity and ideological commitment within the organisation, even as leadership transitions take place.
His remarks also reflect efforts to frame the recent changes as part of institutional growth rather than internal disagreement.
Patriotic League of Uganda has in recent months undergone structural adjustments as it positions itself more firmly within Uganda’s evolving political landscape.
The appointment of Twalla as Secretary General signals what party officials describe as a renewed focus on organisational coordination and expansion.
Kabanda also used his earlier statement to congratulate Twalla, wishing him success in the new role and urging continuity in advancing the movement’s agenda.
His tone has largely been conciliatory, aligning with earlier messages from PLU leadership that praised his service and contributions.
