Kampala, Uganda — Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has commented on the reported disappearance of investigative journalist Andrew Natumanya, widely known as Ninyez Tabz, saying he will establish which security unit, if any, is holding him.

His statement comes at a time when online pressure is mounting, with Ugandans demanding answers about the journalist’s whereabouts following claims that he was taken by armed men in Kamwokya and driven off in an unmarked vehicle.

In a post shared on X, Muhoozi wrote: “I will check on who has Tabz, if at all. Our security system is vast. We have very many intelligence services.”

His statement comes at a time when online pressure is mounting, with Ugandans demanding answers about the journalist’s whereabouts following claims that he was taken by armed men in Kamwokya and driven off in an unmarked vehicle.

The matter was first brought into the public domain by National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, who said Natumanya had been seized without any official explanation or disclosure of where he was being held.

The allegation quickly gained traction on social media, sparking widespread concern and calls for accountability.

Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, later weighed in, demanding that authorities either produce the journalist in court or clarify his location, warning against what he described as a pattern of enforced disappearances targeting critics and journalists.

Muhoozi’s remarks have now placed renewed attention on Uganda’s security structure, which includes several intelligence and military-linked agencies operating with different mandates.

His reference to the system being “vast” and composed of “very many intelligence services” has fuelled public debate over coordination and responsibility in cases involving arrests or detentions.
