Former Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda has sharply confronted Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba following his controversial remarks on social media and the circulation of an image showing lawyer Erias Lukwago allegedly in detention after his reported abduction.

The political clash comes amid growing tension in Uganda after Lukwago was reportedly taken from his home in Wakaliga, Kampala, during an early morning security operation involving armed personnel.

Witnesses said the raid was conducted by operatives in both military uniform and civilian clothing, before Lukwago was whisked away to an unknown location.

Shortly after reports of the incident emerged, Gen Muhoozi posted statements on X that triggered widespread criticism and concern among political observers and rights advocates.

He also shared an image appearing to show Lukwago in a basement-like setting, further intensifying public debate about the circumstances surrounding the detention.

In response, Ssemujju Nganda issued a strongly worded rebuke, questioning both the legality of the operation and the conduct of the country’s military leadership.

He said Muhoozi’s actions and statements raised serious constitutional concerns and undermined the rule of law.

“Muhoozi Kainerugaba how can you aspire to be our President when you are presiding over the breakdown of the rule of law? As CDF you are not above the law; you are not yet the president! You can be sued; that is our law,” Ssemujju said.

His remarks reflect growing unease within opposition circles, who argue that the treatment of Lukwago signals an escalation in the use of security forces against political and legal figures.

They have also questioned the absence of an official explanation from security agencies regarding the reasons for his detention or his current whereabouts.

Lukwago, a prominent lawyer and former Lord Mayor of Kampala, is known for representing high-profile opposition figures and challenging state actions in court.

His reported abduction has drawn attention from legal and political observers.
