Opposition leader Bobi Wine has strongly condemned the abduction of journalist and activist Natumanya Andrew, also known as Ninyez Tabz, describing the incident as further evidence of increasing state repression against government critics.

Natumanya, an outspoken online commentator known for his critical posts targeting senior government officials and institutions, was reportedly picked up from Kamwokya in Kampala by unidentified individuals and taken away in a drone.

In his reaction, Bobi Wine issued a sharp statement defending the activist and linking the alleged abduction to a broader pattern of intimidation against dissenting voices.

“You can abduct and torture Ninye Tabz but you cannot break his resolve,” Bobi Wine said.

“This does not show the strength of the regime, it only exposes how weak and decadent it is. We stand with you my brother. Just like the Amin regime, one day all this will be history.”

The remarks come amid growing concern from opposition figures and civil society actors over what they describe as a continued crackdown on digital activists, journalists, and supporters of the opposition.

Natumanya has gained prominence on social media platform X, where he regularly engages in political commentary and criticism of state officials.

His recent online exchanges, including a public feud with State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere, had further raised his profile in political discourse circles, with supporters praising his boldness and critics accusing him of provocation.

The opposition-aligned National Unity Platform (NUP), of which Natumanya is a supporter, first raised the alarm over his alleged disappearance, saying he was taken without explanation shortly after being seen in Kamwokya.
