“You Can’t Scare Me” — Journalist Ninyez Tabz Breaks Silence, Claims Arrest Over Corruption Exposé

Journalist Andrew Natumanya, popularly known as Ninye Tabz, has escalated his public response following his release on police bond, alleging that his arrest and detention were directly linked to his efforts to expose corruption.

Tabz, who had gone missing for several days before resurfacing in police custody, took to social media shortly after his release, thanking supporters while also issuing a defiant message to those he believes targeted him.

In his latest remarks, the journalist claimed that his detention was intended to silence him but insisted it would not deter his activism.

“And if you think you scared me and my fight for a better Uganda we all want to see will be tilted, then you’re super dumb to even have a grain of that thought!” he wrote.

He added: “My name is TABANDAMA and that is in my DNA!”

The statement marks a shift from his earlier message of gratitude, where he thanked Ugandans and opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu for standing with him during what he described as “five days of hell.”

Tabz was released on police bond after being investigated over allegations related to the unauthorised disclosure of official information and personal data.

He is expected to report back to authorities as investigations continue.

His disappearance had triggered concern among media stakeholders and opposition figures, who questioned the manner in which he was picked up and held without immediate public accountability.

Authorities have not provided detailed explanations regarding the circumstances of his detention.

The journalist’s latest claims are likely to intensify debate around press freedom and the risks faced by media practitioners and online activists in Uganda, particularly those involved in investigative reporting or political commentary.
