President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya.

The announcement was made on X by the President’s assistant for press and mobilization, Faruk Kirunda, highlighting that the Deputy IGGs, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, will continue in their roles.

“Accordingly, the names of the appointees have been forwarded to Parliament for vetting. Congratulations to the appointees!” Kirunda stated.

Justice Batala’s appointment comes at a time when the office of the IGG plays a critical role in promoting accountability, fighting corruption, and ensuring good governance in Uganda.

The IGG’s office investigates and prosecutes cases of misuse of public office and ensures public resources are managed transparently.

The vetting process in Parliament is expected to evaluate the suitability of the appointees based on their professional qualifications, integrity, and capacity to discharge their duties independently.

Once approved, Justice Batala will take over the reins from Kamya, who has held the position for several years.

Deputy IGGs Dr. Okiria and Mrs. Muhairwe, whose appointments have been retained, are expected to continue supporting the IGG in overseeing investigations, handling complaints, and implementing anti-corruption policies across government ministries and agencies.
