President Yoweri Museveni on Monday began a tour of West Nile, urging residents to back the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in extending its governance mandate.

Addressing a crowd in Packwach, Museveni emphasized the region’s historical struggles with political instability, noting that many older citizens lived in exile under previous administrations.

“Some were even born outside Uganda and only returned after we assumed leadership,” he said, highlighting the party’s role in restoring stability.

The President also appealed to the people to recognize the NRM’s achievements in building economic and social infrastructure across the region.

“We have worked to strengthen systems that empower families and communities,” Museveni said, urging residents to trust the government and the party to safeguard these gains.

Museveni’s remarks centered on the theme of unity in politics, which he described as essential for continued progress and peace in Uganda.

He asked the people of West Nile to support the party’s efforts in sustaining development initiatives and enhancing livelihoods.

The tour forms part of NRM’s outreach strategy ahead of the 2026 general elections, with the party aiming to consolidate support in historically significant regions.

During his visit, Museveni is expected to interact with local leaders and communities to discuss ongoing development projects and future priorities under the NRM administration.
