Oyam South MP and Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi, has accused Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, of using soldiers and cash to influence the outcome of the recent elections in Lango.
Speaking in an interview on Voice of Lango on Monday night, Amongi claimed her defeat was orchestrated by a well-funded campaign backed by the parliamentary Speaker.
“The Speaker of Parliament mobilized soldiers to ensure that I failed. She came to Lango with Shs 4.2 billion. On Wednesday, prior to the Thursday elections, she arrived with more than ten buses of people to help distribute money and to assist in ticking ballots,” Amongi alleged.
The MP, who lost her parliamentary seat, suggested that the presence of armed forces and organized distribution of cash undermined the credibility of the electoral process in Oyam South.
She described the actions as deliberate attempts to sway voters and disrupt her campaign.
Amongi’s claims, if substantiated, raise questions about electoral integrity and the influence of powerful political figures in local contests.
She called for an investigation into the alleged manipulation of the vote and the involvement of government resources in political campaigns
