National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has sharply criticized the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) over what he describes as selective justice in the country.

In a statement shared on social media, Bobi Wine accused the DPP of refusing to transfer political cases involving NUP members from military to civilian courts, despite a Supreme Court ruling mandating the move.

“The same DPP who has refused to transfer the cases of our comrades, the political prisoners, from the military court to civilian courts for over a year… each day sanctions trumped-up charges against our people to keep them in long periods of detention,” Bobi Wine said.

He contrasted this with recent decisions by the DPP to drop charges against three National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs accused of corruption and abuse of office.

He also referenced the dismissal of charges against Amos Lugoloobi, a government minister accused of misappropriating relief materials meant for vulnerable communities.

“This is the same DPP who recently dropped charges against Museveni’s minister Amos Lugoloobi, who was accused of stealing ironsheets for the poor,” he said.

Bobi Wine further urged Ugandans to take action on January 15, describing it as “judgment day against all this nonsense.”

He called for a mass movement to ensure accountability and prevent the state from being used as a tool of oppression.

“The COURT OF THE PEOPLE will sit to free all those under illegal detention and ensure that NEVER AGAIN shall institutions of the state be used against the people,” he stated, adding that the #ProtestVote2026 could end what he called “sickening injustices.”

The remarks are likely to intensify ongoing debates over political freedoms, judicial independence, and accountability in Uganda, as the country approaches the 2026 general elections.
