Police in Kakiri are holding a boda-boda rider identified as Musisi Allan after he was intercepted while transporting nine children from the same family in what authorities have described as a serious breach of road safety regulations.
According to the Directorate of Road Safety and Traffic, the rider, who was operating motorcycle registration number UEA 067F, was stopped by officers during a routine enforcement operation.
Preliminary findings indicate that all nine children belong to one household and had been handed over to the rider by their parent for transport.
Authorities say the rider has since been charged and remains detained at Kakiri Police Station pending court proceedings.
The children were safely secured following the interception, with police confirming that no injuries were reported during the incident.
Speaking on the matter, SP Kananura, the Public Relations Officer in the Directorate of Road Safety and Traffic, condemned the practice, warning parents and guardians against exposing children to avoidable road risks.
“Police @Kakiri is holding one Musisi Allan a boda-boda rider of motorcycle Reg.no UEA 067F, who was intercepted while transporting nine children from the same family,” he stated.
He added that the rider had already been formally processed by authorities. “He has since been charged and is currently detained at the same police facility pending court proceedings,” he said.
SP Kananura further urged the public to take responsibility for child safety, noting that such incidents are preventable if proper care is exercised during transport arrangements.
“All the nine children belong to one family and were reportedly prepared by the parent and handed over to the rider for transport,” he said, adding that the situation reflects a broader concern about negligence in child mobility safety.
He emphasized that children remain highly vulnerable on roads, especially when transported in unsafe or overcrowded conditions on motorcycles, which are a leading cause of road injuries in many parts of the country.
“We strongly urge parents and guardians to desist from such dangerous practices. Such situations are preventable if safety is taken seriously,” he noted.
Authorities have reiterated calls for stricter adherence to road safety guidelines, particularly regarding the transport of minors, as enforcement efforts continue across various regions.
