President Yoweri Museveni on Monday chaired the final Cabinet meeting of the outgoing government, marking a symbolic closure ahead of the formation of a new administration following the recent electoral cycle.

The meeting brought together ministers who have served in the 2021–2026 term.

The President later hosted members of Cabinet to a luncheon in appreciation of their service, describing the outgoing team as central to government’s policy execution during the 2021–2026 term.

The meeting comes as Uganda prepares for a transition period in which a new Cabinet is expected to be appointed after the President’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 2026.

Officials say the handover process is part of constitutional continuity, ensuring government operations remain uninterrupted during leadership transitions.

“Today, I chaired the final Cabinet meeting of the outgoing government and later hosted members to a luncheon in appreciation of their dedicated service to our country.

This is the Cabinet that ushered Uganda into middle-income status, and I thank everyone who contributed to this achievement, including the Cabinet Secretariat for effectively managing the business of cabinet.”

“I thank them all and wish them good luck,” Museveni added in the statement shared on his official X account.

The outgoing Cabinet’s tenure has been marked by continued infrastructure expansion, fiscal consolidation efforts, and implementation of key national development programmes.

Attention now shifts to the composition of the next Cabinet, which is expected to reflect the priorities of the incoming term and will require parliamentary vetting before full assumption of office.

Analysts say the reshuffle period will be closely watched for signals on policy direction and governance priorities going forward.

The new Cabinet is expected to be unveiled shortly after the official swearing-in next month in Kampala.
