Security operations at residences linked to former Speaker Anita Among have continued to generate political discussion, with analysts questioning whether the raids reflect a purely legal process or a broader political signal within government circles.

The coordinated searches targeted properties in Nakasero, Ntinda and Kigo in Kampala and Wakiso.

Joint teams drawn from the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Uganda People’s Defence Force cordoned off the areas as they conducted prolonged searches.

Authorities say the operations are linked to investigations into alleged corruption, money laundering, abuse of office and possible breaches of the Leadership Code Act.

Reports indicate that investigators collected financial documents, electronic gadgets and other records believed to be relevant to the case.

The scale of the operation, involving multiple security units and extended roadblocks, has drawn attention across political and legal circles, with differing interpretations emerging over its intent and implications.

Political analyst David Soita Masinde said the raid carries a message beyond the current investigations, arguing that it reflects how accountability actions are often perceived in Uganda’s political environment.

“The Nakasero raid isn't an anti-corruption milestone; it’s a warning shot to everyone else in government. The message is clear: your files are ready, your sins are cataloged, and the FIA will only look your way the second you stop being useful to the center. Among is wrong, but the state’s weaponization of justice is infinitely more dangerous,” Masinde said.

His remarks highlight concerns among some analysts that enforcement agencies may be influenced by political dynamics, especially when dealing with senior officials and high-profile figures.

Among, who has previously faced public scrutiny over her wealth declaration, has not issued a detailed statement on the specific findings from the raids.

She has, however, indicated in earlier remarks that she is prepared to cooperate with lawful investigations.

The developments come at a time when questions over governance, accountability and the independence of oversight institutions continue to dominate public debate in Uganda, with the ongoing probe expected to remain under close public and political watch.
