Woman MP for Torego District, Obigah Rose, has reaffirmed her bid for the position of Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament, outlining an agenda centred on accountability, independence, and people-driven governance.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Obigah said she had taken time to reflect on earlier public communication and consultations on social media and in the media before restating her intention to contest for the parliamentary leadership seat.

“Good evening my fellow Countrymen and Countrywomen, who have read through the Social Media starting from Monday 18th May 2026 to date or those who have got my official statement in the Media regarding the interest I have declared to contest for the position of Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament, that, I would like to take this evening of Wednesday 20-5-2026 to yet again re-echo and reaffirm my stand on vying for that position,” she stated.

Obigah, a lawyer and veteran politician, highlighted her long experience in leadership roles across local, national, and international levels, saying it had prepared her to serve in one of the most influential offices in Parliament.

She argued that her track record places her in a strong position to help steer legislative oversight and governance direction if elected.

“With my vast experiences in positions of leadership from different fields of service and duties I performed from Local levels to National and International levels, as a Lawyer and a veteran politician, I believe that, if I am supported and voted to become the Deputy Speaker for the 12th Parliament, I can be able to steer the Parliament and our Country Uganda into a better direction,” she said.

The legislator further emphasised that her leadership style would prioritise integrity and independence within the institution of Parliament, which plays a central role in lawmaking and government accountability.

“My leadership as the Deputy Speaker will focus on People-centered, Honest, Bold and Independent Parliament,” she added.

Obigah also appealed directly to Members of Parliament in the upcoming 12th Parliament, urging them to consider her candidacy as a long-term investment in national development and institutional stability.

“My dear colleague MPs of the 12th Parliament, I can promise each and everyone of you that, your vote for me will never be a regret but rather a milestone added onto the development of Uganda,” she said, before concluding with a direct appeal: “Vote Hon Obigah Rose for Deputy Speaker of Parliament 2026 - 2031.”
