Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has come under renewed pressure following revelations that state intelligence agencies had been tracking her activities from as early as 2021, according to details published in the Weekend Monitor.

The publication reports that a confidential dossier compiled by a top intelligence agency outlines alleged abuse of office during her tenure in the 11th Parliament.

The document reportedly details how investigators monitored decisions, financial flows, and administrative actions linked to the former Speaker over several years.

The report raises concerns about alleged accumulation of wealth, pointing to high-value assets including luxury vehicles and properties.

Investigators are said to be examining whether the assets are consistent with her known income while serving in public office.

Further claims highlighted in the dossier include irregular recruitment within Parliament, with allegations that established procedures were bypassed in the hiring of staff.

The document also links some parliamentary expenditures to questionable transactions, including large sums reportedly allocated for travel that may not have taken place.

Security agencies are also said to be probing claims that parliamentary resources were used to build a financial reserve, described as a “war chest,” though details remain under investigation.

Surveillance operations reportedly involved tracking movements and communications to establish links between key decisions and financial activity.

The developments come at a time when Uganda is facing mounting public concern over corruption and accountability in public institutions.

The case has drawn attention due to the seniority of the office involved and the scale of the allegations outlined.

Despite the claims contained in the intelligence report, there has been no official confirmation of charges against Among. Authorities maintain that investigations are ongoing, and any action will depend on the outcome of the inquiries.

Among has previously dismissed similar accusations, maintaining her innocence. The unfolding probe is expected to test the strength of oversight institutions and could have wider implications for public confidence in governance.
