A commentary attributed to journalist Simon Kaggwa Njala has sparked renewed debate after he linked two separate incidents in Nakasero to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Parliament Speaker Anita Among, suggesting a coordinated intelligence operation and possible internal security tensions.

Njala, in remarks circulated on television discussions and online platforms, claimed that security agencies may have conducted a prolonged covert operation in the area under the cover of infrastructure works, while tracking movements linked to the Speaker’s residence.

He stated:

“Security reportedly mounted an intelligence operation at the crime scene in Nakasero disguised as an ongoing road construction project that took months without completion. They’d apparently start work in the evening but in the process they would register every vehicle that entered her residence for secret meetings.”

Njala further suggested that the same alleged operation may have contributed to heightened tensions in the area, linking it to the shooting of a female motorist near MacKinnon Road in Nakasero, an incident that occurred under unclear circumstances and is under police investigation.

He added:

“Along the way, when the mission leaked, an irate officer shot and nearly killed the woman who is believed to have been behind the operation. Her car had been trailed for a while. Was he on orders?”

The remarks have generated debate, particularly because they appear to connect an ongoing corruption investigation involving Among’s residences and a separate violent incident involving a civilian motorist and a security officer.

Police earlier confirmed that a female driver was shot near the Speaker’s residence along MacKinnon Road on April 30, 2026, in an incident involving a security officer attached to the area.

The officer was later arrested as investigations commenced, with authorities stating that the matter was being handled through standard investigative procedures.

The victim was reportedly driving a Toyota Harrier when the shooting occurred during what authorities described as an altercation.

Police said statements were recorded from witnesses and security personnel stationed in the area as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Separately, on May 16, 2026, a joint security team comprising police and military personnel conducted early morning raids at residences linked to Speaker Anita Among in Kampala and Wakiso.

The operation, which began around 3am, was part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct and related offences.

During the searches, investigators reportedly recovered large sums of cash in local and foreign currency, alongside electronic devices such as phones, laptops, tablets and CCTV-related equipment.

Documents including bank records, company files, land titles and cheques were also taken for forensic examination, according to officials familiar with the operation.
