The National Unity Platform (NUP) has opened applications for party members seeking to contest for the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming by-election, marking the start of its internal selection process.

In a press statement issued by the party’s Election Management Committee (EMC), NUP invited qualified members to express interest in carrying the party flag. The party said all applications will be received physically at its headquarters in Makerere-Kavule.

The committee, chaired by Harriet Chemutai, said the exercise will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

“Expressions of interest will be received on Thursday 14th May 2026 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Interested members are requested to physically submit written applications at the Party Headquarters at Makerere-Kavule,” the statement read.

Applicants have been directed to submit a copy of their NUP membership card, National Identification Card, Curriculum Vitae, and certified academic documents.

The party says the requirements are meant to ensure that only qualified and verified members are considered for the flag.

According to the EMC, the process is part of efforts to maintain order and transparency in the selection of candidates ahead of the by-election.

Earlier in the day, the committee briefed the media on the roadmap for the Kalangala Woman MP by-election, confirming that interested aspirants must present their applications in person.

“All prospective applicants have been advised to individually come to the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule with all the required credentials,” the party said in a social media update.

The Kalangala Woman MP seat is expected to attract interest from within the opposition party as it prepares for another round of internal competition to determine its representative.
