Ugandan Envoy Adonia Ayebare Mourns DCI Boss Tom Magambo’s Son After U.S. Tragedy

Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, has joined family, friends, and officials in mourning the death of Timothy Muganzi Magambo, the son of Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) AIGP Tom Magambo. 


Timothy died on May 16, 2026, in the United States, where he reportedly lost his life while swimming.


In a condolence message shared publicly, Ayebare described the deceased as a young man he had known since infancy, highlighting his character and the impact he had on those around him. 


“This is to extend my deep condolences to my friends Tom and Carol Magambo on the death of their son Timothy Magambo, who left us on May 16, 2026,” Ayebare said.


“I have known Timothy since he was a baby, and he grew to be a brilliant young man loved and respected by his peers and community, as evidenced by the overwhelming number of messages and visits,” he added. 


The ambassador also extended his sympathies to Timothy’s brother, Jonathan Magambo, and concluded his message with a prayer for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace.


The death has drawn widespread condolences from across Uganda’s security, diplomatic, and political circles, reflecting the Magambo family’s prominence in public service. 


AIGP Tom Magambo is a senior figure in Uganda’s law enforcement, and news of his son’s passing has resonated widely both at home and abroad.


According to a death announcement issued by A-Plus Funeral Management on behalf of the family, funeral arrangements are underway. 


A requiem mass will be held at Our Lady of Africa Catholic Church in Mbuya on Tuesday, May 26, starting at 9:00 a.m. Following the service, the body will be transported to Masindi.


The official vigil is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, at the family’s home in Kisalabwire, Masindi Municipality, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Burial will take place the following day, Thursday, May 28, at the family’s ancestral home in the same area. 


A final requiem mass will be conducted at St. Jude Catholic Church Parish in Masindi at 1:00 p.m. before the interment.


Timothy’s death marks a deeply personal loss for the Magambo family, with tributes continuing to pour in, remembering him as a promising and respected young man whose life was cut short.
