The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued a strong statement condemning corruption, positioning himself as an advocate for accountability and a shift in public spending priorities.

In a series of remarks shared publicly, Muhoozi emphasized that public service should be centered on citizens’ welfare rather than personal gain, warning against the misuse of national resources.

“Our job is to serve Ugandans not ourselves! I cannot support corruption! I risked my life to make this country peaceful. Now that it is, it will not be taken by thieves. Never!” he stated.

The comments add to Muhoozi’s recent messaging that has increasingly focused on discipline within government and security institutions, particularly regarding the management of public funds.

He further linked his position to the agenda of the Patriotic League of Uganda, a political pressure group associated with him, arguing for a shift in how parliamentary allocations are used.

“Patriotic League Uganda believes in the reduction of any monies sent to parliament. We believe in redirecting that money to the millions of Ugandans living in shacks, with no water or power,” he said.

The remarks come amid ongoing public debate in Uganda over government spending, parliamentary perks, and service delivery, with critics frequently pointing to disparities between state expenditure and living conditions in informal settlements.

Muhoozi has in recent months positioned himself as a supporter of tighter controls on corruption within state institutions, particularly within the military establishment.

His earlier statements have included calls for discipline in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and warnings against officers accused of mismanagement.

His latest remarks broaden the focus to the wider governance structure, especially Parliament, where budget allocations and administrative spending have long been a subject of political scrutiny.
