Fresh debate has emerged over the controversial luxury vehicle linked to Uganda’s Speaker Anita Among, after political commentator and social media personality Godfrey Kuteesa raised questions about the timing and intent behind its public exposure.
Among recently confirmed ownership of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan 2025 model, reportedly valued at billions of Ugandan shillings after taxes and importation costs.
She maintained that the high-end vehicle was a birthday gift and not personally purchased, even as public scrutiny intensified over its cost and source.
However, Kuteesa has introduced a different angle to the unfolding story, suggesting that the widespread circulation of the vehicle’s details may not be coincidental.
In a statement shared online, he questioned whether the publication of the luxury acquisition could have been orchestrated to shape public perception.
“What if the whole publishing of AAA’s new Rolls-Royce was a setup to make the world see her in this same way?” he posed, casting doubt on the motivations behind the timing of the reports.
Kuteesa further argued that the context in which the story surfaced raises critical questions.
“Think about the timing of the whole thing. Is AAA that mad to purchase such a ride in a time like this when she’s an open exhibition?” he stated, implying that the Speaker, already under scrutiny, would be unlikely to make such a conspicuous acquisition without anticipating backlash.
The commentator also pointed to the broader influence of media in shaping political narratives.
“He who controls media controls the narrative,” Kuteesa added, suggesting that the controversy may reflect deeper power struggles beyond the vehicle itself.
The Rolls-Royce saga has remained a subject of intense public debate, not only due to its high value but also because it comes at a time when questions around leadership, accountability, and public perception remain prominent in Uganda’s political discourse.
Authorities, including officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority led by John Musinguzi, have previously clarified aspects of the tax assessment on the vehicle, noting that the dues run into billions, with arrangements reportedly made for payment.
