The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has publicly reacted to a leaked audio recording allegedly involving senior officials, calling for an urgent security assessment into its authenticity and source.
In a statement shared on social media, Muhoozi referenced the circulation of an audio clip purportedly linked to Uganda’s Ambassador to the European Union, Mirjam Blaak, expressing disbelief over its contents and questioning whether the diplomat had turned adversarial.
“I heard an audio recently purportedtly from my Dutch auntie H.E. Mirjam Blaak. I have not spoken to her for decades but I cannot believe she's our enemy now? ESO should give me a report on this ASAP!” he said.
The reference to the External Security Organisation (ESO), Uganda’s external intelligence agency, signals heightened concern within security circles over the growing trend of leaked recordings involving senior government officials and diplomatic figures.
The statement comes amid heightened political sensitivity following the circulation of an alleged private conversation involving senior government officials, including veteran politician and Water and Environment Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire.
The audio, which has been widely shared online, has sparked debate over internal government communication and the handling of sensitive diplomatic matters.
In the recording, the officials are allegedly heard discussing the impact of political messaging on Uganda’s international image, particularly concerns over public statements that may strain relations with foreign partners.
While the authenticity of the audio has not been independently verified, it has triggered mixed reactions across political and diplomatic circles.
