Leader of Opposition in Parliament and Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi has raised alarm over what he describes as emerging plans to implicate him in terrorism-related charges, as tensions intensify following reported threats linked to Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Ssenyonyi made the remarks while responding to growing political pressure and statements attributed to the military leadership suggesting possible action against opposition figures.

He said he had received information indicating that he could be targeted in a manner similar to past cases involving other opposition politicians.

“I have received information suggesting that the regime intends to implicate me in terrorism-related charges similar to those previously brought against Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi,” Ssenyonyi stated.

He linked the alleged developments to his outspoken criticism of actions he says fall outside the law, including conduct he associates with the Chief of Defence Forces.

“However, I will not be threatened or silenced for speaking out against what I believe to be injustice and actions by the CDF that I consider to be outside the law,” he added.

Ssenyonyi maintained that he will continue his political and parliamentary role without fear, insisting that intimidation will not deter him from public accountability work.

“I will continue to speak out without fear,” he said.

The remarks come amid heightened political unease in Uganda, with opposition leaders increasingly accusing security agencies of using criminal charges and arrests to silence dissenting voices.

Recent controversies surrounding public statements attributed to Gen. Muhoozi have further fueled concerns within opposition circles over the boundaries between military authority and civilian political space.
