Tensions between Uganda’s top military leadership and the opposition escalated sharply after Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba issued a direct and provocative response to opposition leader Bobi Wine in a post on X, signaling a deepening personal and political confrontation.
The exchange follows days of heated debate triggered by Bobi Wine’s earlier criticism of Muhoozi over claims surrounding the alleged detention of former Kampala Lord Mayor and lawyer Erias Lukwago in a basement following his arrest.
The incident has already sparked public concern and renewed scrutiny of Uganda’s security agencies, including the Uganda People's Defence Forces.
In his latest post, Muhoozi dismissed Bobi Wine’s accusations and launched a personal counterattack, using language that has quickly ignited further controversy across political circles and social media platforms.
He wrote:
“Nawewe ni mraibu wa dawa za kulevya! BOBI Wine, when you stop wearing a dress, I'll be waiting for you.”
The statement, which combines Swahili and English, was widely interpreted as both an insult and a challenge, with some observers viewing it as a veiled warning that could imply possible legal or security action against the opposition leader.
Muhoozi’s remarks come amid growing friction between government institutions and opposition figures, with critics accusing senior security officials of increasingly engaging in political rhetoric through social media platforms rather than formal state communication channels.
Bobi Wine has previously accused Muhoozi of abusing military authority and undermining professional standards within the armed forces.
The latest exchange now appears to have escalated beyond political disagreement into personal confrontation, further polarizing Uganda’s already tense political landscape.
