Opposition leader Bobi Wine has sharply criticized Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba following his controversial admission that abducted lawyer and former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was allegedly being held in a basement after an arrest that has triggered public outrage and renewed scrutiny of security operations.
The remarks, circulated on social media, come amid rising concern over alleged enforced disappearances and the conduct of security agencies linked to the Uganda People's Defence Forces.
Human rights groups and opposition figures have demanded clarity on Lukwago’s whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his detention.
In a response, Bobi Wine accused Muhoozi of abusing military authority and undermining Uganda’s armed forces through what he termed reckless public statements and conduct.
He stated:
“Wewe ni mlevi wa taifa tu!
You’re a wannabe badman, masquerading as a fierce military General, but deep inside you’re weak, insecure, and desperate for attention.”
Bobi Wine further alleged that the CDF had disgraced the institution he leads, adding:
“You never earned the ranks you wear, no wonder you abuse and disgrace them every single day. Your actions are such an embarrassment to the Uganda People’s Defense Forces.”
He escalated his criticism by warning that history would judge the leadership harshly, saying:
“History will remember you and your father with shame. One day even your own children will struggle to defend your name.”
The statement has intensified political tensions in Uganda, where opposition leaders continue to accuse security agencies of operating beyond constitutional limits.
