Media personality Denis Duke has drawn attention after offering a candid reflection on the struggles faced by young adults between the ages of 24 and 35, describing it as a defining but difficult phase for many.
He said the period is often marked by intense pressure to succeed, build wealth, and establish identity, even when many are still trying to find stable footing in life.
“The most difficult age for any man/woman is between 24 and 35 years. The pressure to be something , to be someone is so immense. When you look around you, every one seems to be doing some thing for themselves, people seem to be living a life you only dream of. You have applied for jobs and results have been disappointing than Besigye's shot at presidency.”
Duke noted that repeated job rejections and financial strain often lead to frustration, especially when individuals compare themselves with peers who appear to be progressing faster.
He said this stage can also lead to emotional withdrawal and lifestyle changes, as social circles begin to shift with time. According to him, some friendships weaken naturally as people take different life paths.
“Sadly this is the age when most guys lose it, the age when if not careful one is consumed by alcohol and drugs, because disappointments become too much and you find alternative ways to face reality.”
He added that social comparisons, particularly through group chats and social media, can deepen feelings of inadequacy among those struggling financially.
“But after few years of job hunting you are now ready to take on any thing even if its to smell a rich man's farts as long as it pays you, so you end up as an office messenger in one blue chip company in town.”
Duke also pointed to the challenges of relationships during this phase, saying financial instability often influences dating decisions and expectations.
“For Men the worst mistake you could ever do during this period is to try and date. There is nothing that a person going through such times can offer in terms of love. Atleast not today’s love that has become transactional.”
Despite the challenges, he stressed that the period also plays a key role in shaping character and resilience.
“This is the age when you learn a lot about life. This stage teaches you a lot about perseverance, about appreciating the small wins you have each day, it teaches something about friendship , love, career growth and personal responsibility.”
Duke concluded by encouraging young people not to lose hope, noting that many successful individuals went through similar struggles before eventually finding stability and success later in life
