Former Ethics minister Miria Matembe’s household has come under renewed public attention after her husband, Mr Nkemia Matembe, detailed a tense security operation at their residence.
The incident follows recent remarks by Ms Matembe questioning the conduct of Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, raising fresh concerns about the treatment of government critics.
Mr Matembe, who appeared visibly shaken, said the incident occurred on Wednesday morning while his wife was away.
According to his account, a group of security personnel arrived unannounced and proceeded to access parts of the home without offering clear explanations.
He explained that two women dressed in civilian clothing entered the compound and walked directly into the house.
“I was seated having tea when I saw two plain-clothed women enter the compound. They walked past me through the corridor and headed toward the bedroom area,” he said.
Mr Matembe noted that his attempts to question the women were ignored, leaving him confused about their intentions.
The situation escalated when he observed additional individuals stationed outside the house.
“On looking outside, I saw two soldiers in uniform wearing masks. There was also a tall, heavily built man in civilian clothes standing on the balcony,” he added. Despite their visible presence, the men reportedly declined to explain the purpose of their visit.
He further stated that while the men claimed they did not want anything, the two women remained inside near the bedrooms, deepening his anxiety about the situation.
The lack of communication from the group has since raised questions about the legality and motive of the operation.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of security agencies following Ms Matembe’s outspoken criticism of General Muhoozi.
There has been no official statement from security agencies regarding the incident. However, the account provided by Mr Matembe is likely to fuel public concern and calls for transparency.
