Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Chairman and Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has formally congratulated Honourable Fadil Twalla following his assumption of office as the organisation’s new Secretary General, in a ceremony held at the PLU headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.
Twalla replaces Kasambya County Member of Parliament Daudi Kabanda in a leadership transition that signals a shift within the political pressure group’s top rank.
The event, attended by senior political figures, religious leaders, and PLU supporters, marked both a formal handover and a strategic moment for the organisation’s future direction.
In a message issued after the ceremony, Gen. Kainerugaba praised Twalla’s appointment, describing it as a significant step for the “Mighty PLU.”
He also acknowledged the role of the National Vice Chairman, Michael Nuwagira, who supervised the transition process, ensuring continuity in the league’s leadership.
“I congratulate our comrade Hon. Fadil Twalla on assuming the high office of General Secretary of the Mighty PLU,” Kainerugaba stated, while extending appreciation to members who turned up in large numbers to witness the occasion.
The PLU chairman further thanked the Speaker of Parliament, who officiated as the Chief Guest, underscoring the political weight attached to the event.
The presence of high-ranking leaders highlighted PLU’s growing influence within Uganda’s political landscape.
During the ceremony, Twalla outlined his leadership vision, presenting a five-point agenda focused on strengthening party structures, combating corruption, promoting youth empowerment, improving service delivery oversight, and fostering national unity.
He also paid tribute to his predecessor, Kabanda, acknowledging his contribution to building the organisation.
The handover was symbolically marked by the presentation of the East African Community flag, reflecting PLU’s broader regional outlook and ideological positioning.
