Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has appeared before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makindye Division, Kampala, where proceedings were briefly overshadowed by concern over his physical condition and the continued lack of clarity on the charges against him.

The development comes hours after he was transferred under tight security from Kira Division Police Station following a tense standoff involving supporters and legal representatives demanding access and information on his detention.

Former Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura later shared a photo from inside court showing Lukwago in the dock, describing him as visibly weak and fatigued.

“Counsel Erias Lukwago in the dock, he looks so frail! Charges yet to be read out,” Nyanjura stated, drawing attention to both his condition and the delay in formally presenting the charges.

Lukwago’s appearance in court attracted lawyers, family members, and political supporters who had followed his movement from Kira Police Station earlier in the day.

Security remained tight around the courtroom as proceedings began, with limited access granted to members of the public and media.

Despite his appearance, court officials had not yet disclosed the details of the case or formally read out the charges, leaving uncertainty surrounding the legal basis for his detention and prosecution.

The situation has intensified political debate in Kampala, with opposition figures questioning the handling of the case and calling for transparency in the judicial process.

They argue that timely disclosure of charges is essential to uphold due process and public trust.
