A supporter of Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly appealed for the release of senior lawyer Erias Lukwago, citing concerns about his health following his reported arrest by military operatives.

The supporter, identified as Tumukunde Tonny, made the plea through a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), urging the army commander to show compassion and mercy in handling Lukwago’s case.

His remarks come amid growing public attention surrounding Lukwago’s alleged abduction from his home in Wakaliga, Kampala, on Monday morning.

In the message, Tonny described himself as a loyal supporter of General Muhoozi and expressed confidence in his leadership.

However, he urged the military chief to consider Lukwago’s condition, stating that the lawyer may not be in good health.

“I am one of your good supporters and a young person who believes in your leadership,” Tonny wrote. “With utmost respect and humility, I kindly appeal to your sense of mercy and compassion regarding Mr. Erias Lukwago.”

Tonny noted that while Lukwago may have been involved in actions or disagreements that attracted attention, he was largely acting in a professional capacity as a legal representative.

He further revealed that he had recently interacted with Lukwago at court and observed that his health appeared to be deteriorating.

“I interacted with him at court a few days ago, and his health, by all indications, is not in the best condition,” he added.

The appeal also highlighted concerns among young supporters of General Muhoozi, suggesting that an act of leniency would be positively received.

Tonny emphasized that many would be encouraged to see a show of compassion from the military leadership.

“We do not wish to see his health deteriorate further. I just ask for your mercy as my leader. Hear my plea. He is sick,” he wrote.

Lukwago, a prominent opposition figure and former Lord Mayor of Kampala, was reportedly taken by armed security personnel during an early morning operation.

As of now, authorities have not officially disclosed his whereabouts or any charges against him.
